Welcome!

Who am I?

Hello! I'm Stella Thompson (she/her). Originally from Columbus, Ohio, I am graduating from Carleton College this spring with a major in Computer Science and minors in Music and Digital Arts and Humanities. At school, I have enjoyed working as a Prefect for the Computer Science department and a Student Manager in the dining halls. For fun, I play on the Club Tennis team, where I'm the Treasurer, practice the Pipe Organ, and host a weekly student radio show.

What is Digital Arts and Humanities?

Digital Arts and Humanities is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection between digital methods and the Humanities. In addition to exploring how computational tools can enhance traditional humanities work, digital humanities also seeks to understand the impacts of using such tools. At Carleton, this includes a range of courses in departments such as Computer Science, History, English, Archaeology, and Cinema and Media Studies. You can read more about the Digital Arts and Humanities program at Carleton here.

How do we fit together?

I chose to come to Carleton, a Liberal Arts College, so that I could explore a wide range of classes and interests. Even though I settled on a Computer Science major, I really enjoy humanistic inquiry and wanted to incorporate humanities classes into my studies. The digital arts and humanities program is perfect for me because it allows me to apply my technical skills to humanities projects. Ideally, I would like to pursue a career in digital archiving or museum work so that I could continue merging these interests.
